Sakul 9: I actually really do want to watch that trilogy -- I've heard some exciting things about the first two, in particular.

Mitchell: I watched an online screener of it, so it probably wouldn't have made for the most comfortable joint-viewing experience. And you're correct in guessing that my exposure to his musical output is limited, though I have enjoyed the work in that department featured in both Rubber and Wrong. I shall do my best to check out some of Mr. Oizo's other stuff!

Oh wow, I wish I knew you were gonna watch Wrong, I'm a huge fan of Quentin Dupieux's music and I've been dying to see it! Haha, not dying.

But yeah, I have a feeling you don't listen to his musical persona, Mr. Oizo, but his music is similarly strange and absurd. I'm glad you found Wrong at least humorous, and I really gotta check it out!!! Blahhhhhhh!

John: Meek's Cutoff is definitely her most emotionally unengaged (and not the easiest sit in the world), though I still consider it a pretty phenomenal stylistic achievement. And I'm totally with you on Wendy and Lucy -- I saw it initially in theaters, but it hit me much harder on a second viewing. Old Joy is very impressive, too, though I've only seen it once to date.

Love, love, love Wendy and Lucy. Ditto Old Joy. Two films that really grew on me over time and repeat viewings. Can't stand Meek's Cutoff, though. That one's just a chore.

Mitchell: Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Not to beat this dichotomy to death even further, but I found the craft elements of Silver Linings Playbook -- including the cutting, which isn't anything special -- to be more than a few notches below The Fighter. The one scene I disliked with a passion was the flashback to the violent encounter in the shower. I really had an averse reaction to how Russell spliced that moment together -- it felt like such a cheap way for him to get the viewers to go, "Oh, wow, this guy's past is so troubled!"
