The great trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master — which, humorously, Michael Phillips recently declared to be one of the three best films he’s seen all summer — has finally landed over at Apple, only a couple days after The Weinstein Company informed us of their gracious moving-up of the film’s release date to September 21. Anderson’s first film since 2007′s There Will Be Blood, one of the decade’s finest, The Master looks predictably rich in compositional elegance and actorly power. Like Anderson himself, we’ve come to expect first-rate things from Amy Adams and Philip Seymour Hoffman time and time again, but the more we see of Joaquin Phoenix, the more it appears this is his film to run with. Spend some time with the embed after the cut, and be happy that the wait is now only a month-and-a-half away.
