I plan on reading David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas sometime before Warner Bros. releases its film adaptation — co-directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer — on October 26, so I’m putting off watching this six-minute Apple trailer for now. But word around the web is ecstatic, and even just scrolling through the preview to find a suitable screenshot, the burst of visual imagination is right there in your face. With this extended first-look — plus a directors’ commentary, plus a 164-minute runtime — Warner Bros. is clearly exuding a sense of confidence, and that’s encouraging, considering the epic canvas on display here. I’ve yet to find a YouTube version that hasn’t been stripped down by the studio, but I’ll update this with an embed when one does arrive.
