I must’ve been skimming through those Sundance reviews faster than I thought, because I had no idea that Brit Marling, who gave one of the young year’s most original performances in Sound of My Voice, was a co-star in Nicholas Jarecki’s Arbitrage. This Apple trailer pits her up against a leading-man Richard Gere on several occasions, giving the impression that she may even have a bigger role in things than Susan Sarandon. There’s also Tim Roth, as a detective on Gere’s money trail. It’ll be interesting to see how the film is received when it debuts stateside on September 14, because part of me wonders if its Sundance-hit status has something to do with the seasoned-vet cast and financial-thriller pleasures providing a refreshing refuge from the grassroots stuff that’s become synonymous with the festival.
