The first trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, which set the web aflame when it debuted last week, has finally hit over at Apple. I had the good fortune of seeing this on the IMAX screen before Prometheus last week, and it played expectedly well for the Friday-night crowd (as it reportedly did at Cannes as well). Having read the script, which works very much within an Inglorious Basterds vein, it’s hard to imagine anything other than critical and commercial swooning greeting the film when it drops on Christmas Day. If you’re not a Tarantino die-hard — and I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself one — Leonardo DiCaprio’s two line-readings in the preview below are more than enough on their own to hook even the most skeptical of viewers. Part of me still thinks back to when I was pulling for Anthony Mackie’s title-role chances, but Jamie Foxx looks like he’s got a solid grip on the spirit. Embed after the cut.
