For obvious reasons, Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables has all of the makings of a bankable sight-unseen Oscar player. The adapted screenplay comes from William Nicholson (Gladiator), who has displayed a period-piece tendency throughout his career. The film also reunites Hooper with Danny Cohen, who provided the Oscar-nominated cinematography for the Oscar-winning The King’s Speech. The cast, additionally, is oozing with well-known, multi-dimensional names — Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, and Russell Crowe chief among them. Sacha Baron Cohen’s in the mix, too, prompting one to wonder if he’s going to start making a habit out of appearing in one prestige pic each year. An embedded version of the trailer, which just hit at Apple, can be found after the cut.
