Poster for Steve McQueen’s ‘Shame’

THR has debuted a poster for Steve McQueen’s Shame, which I’ll be seeing tonight at the New York Film Festival. I was ecstatic when I heard the news that Fox Searchlight had picked up this project after its enthusiastically-reviewed festival run, though I think I’d have trouble steering clear of trailers and clips if I had to wait until that December 2 release. But this one-sheet is nice and straightforward, and, I must say, rather provocative in that simplicity. I’ll cut off my analysis there. Be sure to hook up with my Twitter page for my post-screening reaction to the film, and click ahead after the jump to get a full look at the poster.

Can’t wait to get your thoughts. I suspect that I will have to watch the film in January.

Fitz: I’ll probably wait to post my review until it’s closer to the film’s release date. But it’s an amazing film, and Fassbender deserves to be in the hunt for a nomination.

How explicit is the film? My girlfriend is cautious about seeing it with me.

Fitz: Not to discourage her from seeing it, but she’d be justified in her caution. Much of the frontal nudity is harmless — i.e. Mulligan’s character stepping nude out of the shower — but there are enough grueling sex scenes to warrant caution. One wrenching instance of explicit dialogue, too.

I don’t want to get into spoilers, but hopefully you can catch enough of a drift from that to gauge the impact it might have on her. It has NC-17 content and, on top of that, characters that you’re truly invested in — all of which is to say that it’s a trying experience, physically and emotionally. It’s also one of the year’s best films. Tough call.

Maybe I should catch this one myself then. Thanks, Danny!
